Suction Returns and Parts

Suction Returns and Parts

In this Category you will find Suction or some people call them Return Parts. This Part is found normally in the footwell of your Hot Tub and has a cover over it with a bunch of small holes or slits cast in it. This is where the pumps suck the water along with the filter into the pumps to push through the manifold system back to the jets. Things that go wrong with Suctions are people stepping on the cover and breaking them off or the cover just getting fatigued and breaking apart or leaks where the suction is sealed through the shell to the plumbing system. NOTE: THESE COVERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND IF THEY ARE MISSING OR COMPROMISED YOU SHOULD NOT USE THE HOT TUB UNTIL THEY ARE REPLACED. USING THE HOT TUB WITH THESE MISSING COULD CAUSE A PERSON TO DROWN BY BEING HELD UNDER THE WATER BY THE SUCTION PRESSURE OF A PUMP SO DON’T TAKE A MISSING OR BROKEN COVER LIGHTLY!

To figure out what size of a return assembly you would need if you were replacing the whole assembly you would measure the pipe size and the hole size through the shell. If you need just a cover You would measure the overall outside and inside dimensions of the cover and the height as well as the brand and screw configuration and compare them to our covers. There are some brand that only offer assemblies even if you just need a cover so be prepared for that. Suction Assemblies are very hard to replace and sometimes require the hot tub to be stood up and the bottom to be removed so be careful and choose wisely.

Due to the Virginia Graeme Baker Act there are a lot of the suction covers that are no longer available. There may be alternatives to the covers but if there are no alternatives you must replace the entire suction assembly.

NOTE: IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO REPAIR A BROKEN OR MISSING COVER YOU ARE TAKING YOU LIFE AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS INTO YOUR OWN HANDS DO NOT DISCOUNT THIS WARNING THIS IS VERY SERIOUS.

NOTE to the Note: Your Hot Tub Should have a minimum of (2) Suction points for each pump meaning if you have one suction in your footwell and a filter and one pump then the pump would be plumbed from the suction and the filter to the pump creating (2) suction points. The reason for (2) suction points is so a person can not be sucked down and held under the water from too much suction at one point and the odds of one person being able to cover (2) points at the same time are virtually impossible if Approved VGB covers are in place. If you find that your hot tub only has one suction point on a pump then that hot tub is unsafe for use even with an approved VGB suction cover. I have seen this in Infinity Brand Hot Tubs so if you have an Infinity, Serenity, Raindance or other related brands make sure you check your hot tub before use.

This is a chart for the outside of your plumbing pipes so you can figure out what size parts to order.

Note: The actual size a part is called is not the actual size of the hole in the part it is really the Inside Diameter of the pipe that would glue into that part which doesn’t make sense, since you cannot see inside the pipe. Therefore I am giving you the measurements of the outside of the pipe so you know what size part to order. For example a part that is ½” plumbing would glue into would actually measure ¾” inside the hole of the part and on the outside of the pipe that glues into the part.
Pipe Outside Diameter chart:
½” Outside Diameter is ¾”
¾” Outside Diameter is 1”
1” Outside Diameter is 1 ¼”
I have never seen 1 ¼” in Hot Tubs
1 ½” Outside Diameter is 1 â…ž”
2” Outside Diameter is 2 â…ś”
2 ½” Outside Diameter is 2 â…ž”
